This was to be an annual report of strong, landscape images depicting California as a great state in which to live. Emmett Morava and Jim Cross, designer and creative director, Lloyd Dennis, client, and I worked as a team to select sites that were both visually rich and representative of the state's cultural, educational and environmental assets.

I was otherwise given complete freedom to interpret photographically, in seven images, America's most varied and remarkable state.

Anderson Litho in Los Angeles reproduced the images as black & white quadtones using an innovative combination of black and gray inks, adding a mat varnish to further enhance the values. The book achieved the highest level of excellence in all areas of creativity and production and remains one of my most favorite annual report assignments.
