Early Explorations in Image Processing
Christmas, 1987 -- the stock market had just crashed and digital imaging was making itself know in the graphics industry. As a photographer I was bothered by the fact that working in the digital arena meant working with secondary information - information that had already been processed. But I was also intrigued by the technology and had a lot of time on my hands to explore this new medium for its creative potential.
I took generic imagery from porn videos and news photos and layered the digital information into still composites, hoping to achieve a satisfactory degree of authorship. I also created video portraits of close friends and image-processed digitized stills from those documents.
